University Learning Architecture: a framework for the AI era

Universities do not fail for lack of innovation. They fail for lack of architecture: brilliant projects that do not connect with the educational model, strategies that never reach the classroom, classrooms that never feed the strategy.

The three layers

Macro — direction. Purpose, identity, educational model, AI strategy and governance, value proposition, relationship with the territory and employment.

Meso — system. Graduate profile, curriculum, competency progression, assessment, faculty development, technology, data, external engagement.

Micro — experience. Challenges, projects and cases, activities, roles, feedback, rubrics, metacognition, evidence.

The value chain

Purpose → educational model → graduate profile → curriculum → experiences → assessment → evidence → impact.

When one link breaks, transformation becomes communication: the institution declares what it cannot prove.

Cross-cutting systems

AI, culture, leadership, technology, measurement and change management run across all three layers. They are not departments; they are conditions.
